Communication, Language and Literacy

At JCP, we believe that reading, writing and communication skills are fundamental in ensuring that children are equipped for everyday life. Therefore, these skills are taught in discrete lessons but also throughout all aspects of the curriculum. The curriculum includes:

  • Phonics - To develop a solid understanding of the different sounds which make up words, to be used as a reading strategy
  • Reading - To develop reading fluency, comprehension and inference skills and foster a love of reading
  • Literacy - To develop an awareness of different genres through reading, writing and speaking and listening skills
  • Grammar, punctuation and spelling - To develop grammar, punctuation and spelling skills
  • Handwriting - To develop a consistent, legible and joined style.
